Born and raised in Lancaster County, I began my nursing career after graduating from Widener University in Chester, Pennsylvania, in 1985. I started as a medical-surgical nurse at a small community hospital in Lancaster, working all three shifts. I later joined The Reading Hospital and Medical Center (now Tower Health – Reading), where I taught and practiced nursing in the neurology unit from 1992 to 2008. During that time, I earned a Master’s Degree in Nursing Education from Villanova University. Balancing full-time work, family responsibilities, and academic commitments gave me a deep understanding of the student experience. In 2008, I joined HACC as the Campus Director at the York Campus, where I also taught in the nursing program. I now serve as the Associate Dean of the School of Health Sciences, where I partner with our nursing faculty and staff in the operation of our nursing programs.

HACC graduate May 2013, BSN Chamberlain University 2018, Adult Gerontology Nurse Practitioner Student - graduating August 2025. I love nursing and feel that HACC prepared me better than any program to practice. I have done both shirts and skilled home health, nursing home, internal medicine, and correctional medicine. For the past several years I have been a nurse consultant with over site of 17 county correctional facilities medical departments in PA. I also continue to do home health as I love working with patients and seeing them reach a healthy discharge. I love wounds and wound vacs, which I learned in home health. I would have never been able to work on my own in a patients home without going to HACC. It really shaped the nurse I am, and eventual NP.

Sunny Goodyear, MSN, RN, CCRN, has been a registered nurse for over 31 years and has spent her entire career at Holy Spirit Medical Center. She received her associate’s degree from Harrisburg Area Community College, her bachelor’s in nursing and a master’s degree in nursing education from Walden University. Her experience and expertise have been utilized in the Holy Spirit Medical Center intensive care unit for the past 20 years. In October 2018, she joined the trauma team and started her role as Injury Prevention and Outreach Coordinator for Trauma Services at Holy Spirit. This role allows her to reach the community by providing education, learning labs, seminars, and instruction on preventing traumatic injury and violence. Sunny has provided the life-saving Stop the Bleed training to over 15,000 participants and is passionate about training bystanders to be first responders. She takes this training to schools, churches, businesses, libraries, senior centers, and local and state police. She is a member of the American Association of Critical Care Nurses, the Society of Trauma Nurses, and the American Trauma Society. Sunny’s most significant professional accomplishment thus far is spearheaded the Workplace Violence Task Force at Holy Spirit. She continues to lead the way by encouraging all healthcare workers to set practice standards and protect themselves against violence by patients, families, and visitors. Sunny is also an Adjunct Clinical Nursing Instructor for Harrisburg Area Community College. She resides in Mechanicsburg and is married to John and has four children: Nathaniel, age 27; Joshua, age 25; Luke, age 23; and Hannah, age 21.

Director of Financial Aid

My career in surgical technology started right here at HACC, where I graduated from the Surgical Technology program in 2016. My graduating class was small—just five of us—but today, the program has grown significantly, accepting 14-16 students per cohort. This year, we have 14 students preparing to graduate, which is incredible to see! After graduation, I spent over three years at the West Shore Surgery Center, scrubbing primarily in ophthalmology but also gaining experience in general surgery, gynecology, plastics, ENT, podiatry, and more. While there, I had the opportunity to train most of our new hires and precept surgical technology students who rotated through our facility. Through this, I discovered a love for teaching and helping others—something that would shape the rest of my career. In 2019, I had the incredible opportunity to return to HACC—not just as an alum, but as someone helping new students during summer open labs. Teaching quickly became a passion of mine, and even as I transitioned to Capitol Laser and Surgery Center to focus solely on eye cases, I continued to support HACC students. My journey came full circle when I was promoted to part-time Clinical Coordinator in 2020, and now, in 2024, I’m honored to be a full-time Instructor and Clinical Coordinator for the Surgical Technology program. It’s been amazing to go from student to professional and now educator, helping to shape the next generation of surgical technologists.

I have taught in the Human Service Program at HACC for 35 years and have been the Department Chair for Health Careers for 7 years. In addition I earned a masters degree in Clinical Psychology from Millersville University and am a licensed clinical psychologist in Pennsylvania with over thirty years experience.

I started my educational journey with an associate's degree in dental hygiene. I worked in dental offices for about 15 years before deciding to be an adjunct, teaching dental hygiene clinicals and radiology at HACC. From there I gained a full-time faculty position and eventually became the program director in HACC's dental hygiene program. After a few years, an associate dean position became available and I applied. It was important to me, after working with a number of deans, to have someone with a healthcare background in that position. I accepted the associate dean position in 2018 and then more recently was promoted to executive dean for the School of Health Sciences. Somewhere in the middle of all that I obtained a bachelor's degree in dental hygiene, a master's degree in health education and a doctoral degree in health science. I have continued to teach dental hygiene, allied health, and/or CPR classes and make sure I have the time for some teaching each year. I am proud of the students here at HACC, and happy to see their accomplishments once they leave our doors.

Dr. Ski has been president since July 2011. Ski is the past chairman of the American Association of Community Colleges (AACC) Board of Directors and served on the AACC’s 21st Century Commission on the Future of Community Colleges. Ski served a two-year term as chair of the Pennsylvania Commission for Community Colleges Board of Directors. A native of Cleveland, Ohio, Dr. Ski is the only member of his working-class family to graduate from college earning bachelor, two master and doctorate degrees, including an honorary associate degree from a community college. A biking enthusiast, he and his husband, Steve Perrault, live in Harrisburg with Bart, their Basenji dog.

I am a faculty member in Foundational Studies and Director of First Year Experience at HACC plus I advise students in the Human Services, Social Services and Addiction & Recovery Services majors. I've been at HACC for about 24 years, and my greatest enjoyment is seeing students accomplish their goals.

My name is Sarina Parkhurst and I am one of the Financial Aid Coordinators at HACC. I have worked in Financial Aid since 2015. I have been with HACC since 2023. My primary focuses are Satisfactory Academic Progress, Verification, Workforce Development, Consortiums, and Customer Service.

Janelle Heiserman is the Associate Dean of Academic Affairs for the School of Science and Math. Janelle proudly began her college journey at HACC as a dual enrolled high school student. She holds a B.A. in History and Art History from Lycoming College, a M.S. in Organizational Development and Leadership from Shippensburg University, and a doctorate in Lifelong Learning and Adult Education from The Pennsylvania State University. In her spare time, Janelle enjoys running, reading historical fiction literature, coaching youth soccer, and being a mom to her two young sons.

John Cline is Assistant Professor of Art - Drawing/Painting in HACC's Fine Arts program.

SHAWN WILLIAMS received a Master of Fine Arts degree from the University of Delaware in 2001 and a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from Edinboro University in 1998. He received a fellowship in the career development program from the Center for Emerging Visual Artists in Philadelphia. Shawn is an Art Coordinator and currently manages the Rose Lehrman Art Gallery and the Ceramics and Jewelry studios at HACC, Central Pennsylvania’s Community College. Shawn has had solo exhibitions at the Woodmere Art Museum, Elizabethtown College, the Doshi Gallery and Millersville University. His work has been included in group exhibitions at the Print Center in Philadelphia, the North American Print Biennial in Boston and the Pleiades Gallery in New York City. His work has been published in Image Transfer on Clay, by Paul Andrew Wandless. Shawn’s work is in permanent collections at the Woodmere Art Museum, Virginia Commonwealth University, the Center for Emerging Visual Artists in Philadelphia and the Southern Graphics Council.

Marjaneh Talebi has been a dedicated full-time senior professor at HACC since 1995, shaping the creative futures of countless students. From the inception of the Graphic and Interactive Design program in 1995, she has served as its passionate and visionary leader, developing a curriculum that remains relevant and cutting-edge in a rapidly evolving field.

I am a recent graduate of Penn State York where I received a BA in English, and a HACC transfer student. As a non-traditional student I was incredibly fortunate that HACC's English program was established during my time there, as it enabled me to discover and hone my talents, and set a course for my future. I am now researching graduate programs and ultimately aspire to a career in academia.

Brianna is dedicated to empowering teams to achieve more than they thought possible. A Gallup-Certified Strengths Coach since 2017, she has guided organizations across industries in strengthening employee engagement, culture, and leadership development. After serving as Director of Learning and Development at a strategic consultancy, she launched her own business, coaching and facilitating workshops that drive transformation. Now, as a Senior Organizational Development Consultant at 34 Strong, Brianna delivers programs designed to build thriving workplaces where people and teams excel.

Kane Jesse Howard is a writer and Literary & Textual studies (English) major at York College of Pennsylvania. He has won collegiate awards for both flash fiction and screenwriting. Howard holds an AS in Communications/Journalism from HACC, Central PA's Community College. He has been published in Study Breaks, The Copper Quill (HACC), and his work will be found in the 2025 edition of The York Review. Howard published the paranormal, sapphic romance Romeo’s Card in 2022, and the paranormal My Broken Heart is Dead in 2025. He lives in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, with his wife and two dogs.

My experience with HACC started as child attending business and science camps over the summer, and returning as a volunteer youth counselor at the Summer Career Camp where I assisted in the culinary and science programs. I always had a passion for science and am grateful for the exposure that HACC offered me at a young age through their community programs. I have since continued to engage elementary and youth aged students through volunteer work in youth programs and STEM events. I am a current fourth-year medical student at West Virginia School of Osteopathic Medicine, and incoming Family Medicine Resident for WellSpan Health York Family Medicine Program. I graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Cellular and Molecular Biology at West Chester University of Pennsylvania in 2018. My passion for medicine arose in my teenage years when I experienced the medical field first-hand during a prolonged illness. My interest grew as I entered university and began to take my basic science classes and was solidified during my work as a medical assistant post-undergrad. I love the field of Family Medicine because I will be able to practice preventative medicine while taking a holistic approach to patient care. Victor Svistunov is an aspiring mucosal immunologist, future principal investigator, and gastroenterologist from Cape Verde, driven by a deep passion for transforming the landscape of global health. Raised in an underserved village where a scientific career seemed impossible, Victor defied skepticism and made the bold decision to pursue his dreams in the United States. He began his academic journey at HACC before transferring to Bucknell University through the Bucknell Community College Scholars Program. Inspired by figures like Louis Pasteur and the guidance of biology professors at both HACC and Bucknell, Victor developed an early interest in microbiology and medicine, spurred by a personal battle with antimicrobial resistance and a growing desire to understand the beneficial microbes that inhabit the human body, particularly in the gut. Victor’s research career began with studying fireflies and fruit flies, where he made discoveries related to odorant receptors and sexual dimorphism in bacterial pathogenesis. This early work earned recognition and led to a move to Boston Children's Hospital, where he joined the Lencer Lab. There, Victor focused on mucosal biology and innate immunity, contributing to significant advances in understanding intestinal epithelial cell responses to toxins and enteric viruses. He also developed expertise in 3D organoid models, a powerful tool for studying gut biology. Now, as a Herchel Smith Fellow and PhD candidate at Harvard Medical School, Victor continues to explore the innate host defense mechanisms, with a focus on the complex interactions between hosts and microbes. Combining his expertise in immunology, evolutionary genomics, and microbiology, he aims to contribute to the development of novel therapies for infections and autoimmune diseases. Ultimately, Victor aspires to become a physician-scientist, using his research to improve global health and inspire future scientists, especially those from underserved backgrounds.
